History

Glen Echo Pottery was founded by Jeff Kirk, who has been the Artistic Director, full-time artist-in-residence, and chief instructor since 1974. He managed the Pottery as a sole proprietorship until 2003, when it was incorporated and restructured it as a non-profit organization. The Pottery became one of the initial members of the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture (GEPPAC), whose mission is "to present vibrant artistic, cultural and educational offerings at Glen Echo Park."

Over the years, the Pottery has greatly expanded in terms of both numbers of students and the extent of facilities. Many students of the Pottery have gone on to become professional potters, a tribute to the training they received from Jeff and other instructors. Many more have become accomplished potters who continue to participate in our Glen Echo Pottery community.
