Adult Beginning and Continuing Wheel Classes
Our adult wheel classes are suitable for ages 18 to 90+ and include scheduled class time with instruction and open studio hours for practice.
What to bring
Tuition and Fees Tuition includes classes, open studio privileges, and use of studio glazes but does not include clay fee, tools or firing fee. Please see the Glen Echo Park website for specific class listings and registration information. Classes Offered
Monday Evening Beginner to Advanced Wheel
This class will introduce beginners to basic wheel techniques and expand wheel methods and surface decoration for the continuing student. The course will include wedging, centering clay, throwing a variety of bowl and cylinder forms such as cups and vases, finishing and glazing. This class enables students to evolve at their own level and improve their skills in clay. Clay fees and firing fees are NOT included in tuition price. Minimum age 18.
Saturday Morning Beginner to Advanced Wheel

Continuing Wheel: Intermediate to Advanced

This class allows students to throw at their own skill level and evolve at their own rate. Emphasis is on shape, function, and surface decoration. All students must have previous experience. The course includes demonstrations and critiques. Clay fees and firing fees are NOT included in tuition price. Minimum age 18.
Home Studio Independent Continuing Study
This class allows wheel students and handbuilding students with home studios to create their pieces at home and then bisque, glaze and final fire at the pottery studio facilities. You must have taken at least four classes at GEP within the past 5 years and work at a skill level of intermediate to advanced to be eligible to enroll. Glazing timeframes will be offered through an on-line sign-up system. Firing fees are not included in tuition price; clay may be purchased through the studio. Minimum age 18.
