Adult Handbuilding Classes
Our adult handbulding classes are suitable for ages 18 to 90+ and include scheduled class time with instruction and open studio hours for practice.
What to bring
Tuition and Fees Tuition includes classes, open studio privileges, and use of studio glazes but does not include clay fee, tools or firing fee. Please see the Glen Echo Park website for specific class listings and registration information. Basic tool kit: $35 Beginner Clay fee: $20; Intermediate to Advanced: $20-25 per 25 lb bag Firing fees: $3 per pound for pieces 9" or less in every dimension; $4 per pound for pieces 9" or more in any dimension |

Tuesday and Thursday Morning Handbuilding: Beginner to Advanced
Instruction in pinch, coil, and slab construction techniques, plus surface decoration, glazing, and firing at cone 10 reduction. Individual guidance for all levels of experience; special attention to newcomers. Experienced potters can pursue independent projects with guidance of instructor. Clay fees and firing fees are NOT included in tuition price. Minimum age 18.
Wednesday Evening Handbuilding: Beginner to Advanced
Instruction in pinch, coil, and slab construction techniques, plus surface decoration, glazing, and firing at cone 10 reduction. Individual guidance for all levels of experience; special attention to newcomers. Experienced potters can pursue independent projects with guidance of instructor. Clay fees and firing fees are NOT included in tuition price. Minimum age 18.
Saturday Morning Handbuilding: Beginner to Advanced*
* January - March only

Handbuilding Self-Directed Learning for Continuing Students

Please Note Eligibility Requirements: Students in this class must have taken at least 4 multi-week classes of handbuilding at Glen Echo Pottery and must be approved by the Pottery Director prior to registration for this class. There will be no formal instruction offered in this class nor any official class day or time. At the start of each session, enrolled students agree on how they will equitably share the studio space to avoid crowding. Experienced potters can pursue independent projects in coil, pinch, slab, sculpting, and other types of handbuilding construction. All projects are conducted with Cone 10 reduction techniques. Clay fees and firing fees are NOT included in the tuition price.
